Leniqueca Welcome came to the University of Arkansas from the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago. As an honors student studying architecture, Leniqueca explained that the program is rigorous, but rewarding. “It has helped strengthen me as a person,” she said. Once she graduates, Leniqueca plans to use her architecture skills in developing countries, starting with her home islands. “That’s where I came from, and I’d like to give back,” she explained.

Leniqueca plans to encourage developing nations to consider their own culture when designing structures, instead of simply copying existing styles. “We've been doing a lot of development in Trinidad, but I don't feel like it's been true to the culture. I'd like to design true to the area,” she said.
