This course will provide a comprehensive overview of Walmart, one of the world's most entrepreneurial and efficient corporations. We will explore the company's best practices, strategies, and history. This course will incorporate collaboration with the Walmart Museum, study of Sam Walton's "Made in America."
About Matthew Waller
Matthew A. Waller is the Dean Emeritus of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and Professor of Supply Chain Management. He earned his PhD from Pennsylvania State University and holds the prestigious William Dillard II Leadership Chair, backed by an endowment of $3 million.
Prior to his 8-year tenure as Dean of the Walton College, he established the Department of Supply Chain Management. The department achieved the top ranking for undergraduate programs in 2020 and 2022 by Gartner, which assesses programs biennially, and the second-highest ranking for graduate programs in North America.
Waller has been honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in 2020. He has served as the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Business Logistics and has an extensive background in entrepreneurship, including co-founding Bentonville Associates Ventures and Mercari Technologies. Presently, he is a Strategic Advisor to NewRoad Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing in retail value chain technology. Additionally, Waller is on the Advisory Board of Natural Capital and the Board of Directors of the Walton Arts Center and Walmart AMP.
As an author, Waller has co-authored five books, including "The Definitive Guide to Inventory Management," "Purple on the Inside: How J.B. Hunt Transport Set Itself Apart in a Field Full of Brown Cows," "Integrating Blockchain into Supply Chain Management: A Toolkit for Practical Implementation," "Values-Driven Authentic Leadership,"" and "The Dean’s List: Leading a Modern Business School." His over 70 scholarly contributions to academic journals have amassed over 12,000 citations, reflecting his significant influence in the field of supply chain management. He is an inventor on a patent issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office: “System, Method and Article of Manufacture to Optimize Inventory and Merchandising Shelf Space Utilization.
