Research Grants

Students working together in McMillon Innovation Lab

At the Honors College, we recognize that in-depth research requires resources – and that students generally need some help in the cold hard cash department. Honors College students have used our research grants to map sites in Pompeii, study Costa Rican cloud forests, and help develop new biofuels. The application process is competitive but the funding is worth the effort - and the grants are a nice plus for your resume. Current students, for information on eligibility, deadlines and the application, visit the Honors Student Hub (log in using your credentials).

We offer four types of research grants to help you get the work done:

Pro Tips:

  • For a quick look at how the grants compare, check out the Honors College Research Grant Cheat Sheet. This PDF summarizes each grant's purpose, requirements, award amounts, and deadlines.
  • In addition to the Honors College grants, you can also apply for a SURF Grant, facilitated through the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.
  • You may only have one active research grant at a time. This includes the SURF grant, Honors College Research Grant, and Extended Research Travel Grant. However, you may apply for a Conference/Workshop Travel Grant to present the findings from an active research grant.

I visited the American Museum of Natural History to collect dental scans as a part of my ongoing project studying tooth wear in human premolars.
